The Heartland United Way will launch a local volunteer website on Monday, March 1 to help connect individuals who want to get involved in their community with volunteer opportunities at local non-profits.
The website features searchable volunteer opportunities from agencies in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties. Volunteers can search the opportunities by keyword, location, personal interests, issues or the type of social groups they would like to work with. The listings include both one-time opportunities and on-going volunteer positions for people with all skill sets, interests and time availabilities.
Currently, the website includes over 25 opportunities from the Heartland United Way’s 16 partner agencies, with plans to add more local organizations in the coming month.
“The new website is a great resource for people who want to get involved as a volunteer and don’t know where to turn,” said Nicole Nicklin, Director of Marketing and Volunteers at the Heartland United Way. “We’ve been told there is a great need for this kind of a local resource, so we’re hopeful it will benefit both community members and local non-profits by providing a place for them to connect.”
All non-profit organizations in the four-county area are invited to utilize the website for free to recruit volunteers. An agency representative can create a profile for their organization in under 15 minutes, which enables them to add opportunity listings and receive referrals.
A training session will be offered on Wednesday, March 31 from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm at Central Community College to teach non-profits how to benefit from the volunteer recruitment tool. Interested organizations should contact the Heartland United Way at 308-382-2675 to register by March 24.
“We hope many local non-profit organizations will take advantage of this free tool to make connections with the public and get the volunteer assistance they need,” Nicklin said. “Their participation will help ensure the effectiveness of this unique volunteer resource for community members.”
By creating a free volunteer account, users can save their preferences for faster searches and receive e-mail updates about opportunities that fit their interests. Once a volunteer finds an opportunity they are interested in, the click of a button sends an e-mail to the agency. From there, the agency contacts the volunteer to arrange the details.
Organizations that would like more information about the website should send an e-mail to nicole@heartlandunitedway.org.
