Friendship House, Inc. Approved as New Heartland United Way Partner Agency

The Heartland United Way Board of Directors recently approved Friendship House, Inc. as a new Heartland United Way Partner Agency.  Friendship House, Inc. is a 20 bed adult male halfway house that is licensed by the State of Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health, as a Substance Abuse Treatment Center.  The goal at the Friendship House is to help prepare residents for their transition from the successful completion of residential substance abuse treatment to sober independent living during their six to twelve month stay at the home. “There is a clear divide between 30-day treatment programs and actually readying individuals to transition back into the community.  Friendship House provides the care, support and resources to fill that gap in our community.  The nearest alternate facilities are located in Lincoln, Omaha & Norfolk.” said Karen Rathke, Heartland United Way President.
Rathke went on to say.  “We are very pleased to welcome the Friendship House, to the Heartland United Way and are excited by the quality of programs and services they offer.”

Aaron Ross, B.S. LADC, Executive Director of the Friendship House, agreed indicating the partnership would be very beneficial to the community and the facility.  He added, “We believe we were going to be a good fit for Heartland United Way because we have been helping improve our resident’s education, income, and health since our creation in 1968; all of which are United Way priority areas.”

The Friendship House joins Heartland United Way’s 15 other non-profit partner agencies: Adult Education, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, Central Nebraska Community Services, Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism & Addictions, Crisis Center, Girl Scouts, Heartland CASA, Hope Harbor, Lutheran Family Services, Multicultural Coalition, Third City Community Clinic, YMCA of Grand Island, YWCA of Grand Island.
