First National Bank employees gather around a conference room table to assemble packets for local nonprofits during their own 2025 Day of Action.

GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA (June 18, 2025) Day of Action is still days away, but employees at First National Bank aren’t waiting to take action.
Around a dozen gathered in a conference room inside their Grand Island location on Allen Drive Wednesday morning.

A bank holiday on Thursday is set to put FNBO in catch-up mode on Friday, leaving employees with no free time to leave to volunteer. But weeks ago, Jodi Rauert, FNBO Financial Advisor and a former Heartland United Way Board chair, reached out with an idea. Could community partners bring the volunteer opportunities to them?

“We all want to volunteer but sometimes it’s a little hard for us to get out there and so this worked out perfect and in fact we’re helping two agencies, one being the Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism & Addictions and the other one is Legal Aid,” said Rauert.

Employees were able to duck into the conference room throughout the day to assemble field packets for Legal Aid, as well as a craft and nametag for kids attending CNCAA camps.

“First National Bank allows each employee to have eight hours of paid time off so we can volunteer. Some of us do hundreds of hours. Some of us get in eight hours but the great thing is that we get paid for doing that,” said Rauert.
