ST. LIBORY, NEBRASKA (May 19, 2026) In the wake of the devastating tornadoes that tore through central Nebraska, communities across the region are asking the same question: How can we help?

To provide a trusted, local way for neighbors to support neighbors, Heartland United Way has established the United After the Storm Fund to assist families impacted by the May 17 tornado near St. Libory.

According to the National Weather Service, the EF-3 tornado remained on the ground for approximately 11 minutes, destroying homes, damaging buildings, and leaving families facing unimaginable loss. Four homes and two additional structures were destroyed, including houses that took a direct hit before the storm continued through nearby pivots and power lines.

In the days since the storm, central Nebraskans have responded with overwhelming compassion — offering helping hands, supplies, prayers, and support to those left with little to nothing. After connecting with Howard County officials and organizations, the relief fund was created to harness that generosity and provide a secure, coordinated way for individuals, businesses, and organizations to make a meaningful impact.

Donations made to the United After the Storm Fund will be distributed among those directly impacted by the tornado.
