Ruger lost feeling in his leg and was crying from pain long after a fall. A Rural Community Impact Grant helped certify an Occupational Therapist at Howard County Medical Center in the Pediatric Treatment of Bowel & Bladder Disorders, meaning Ruger can receive care close to home.

When Getzari arrived in Grand Island she knew very little English. She calls the Heartland United Way-funded Literacy Council her safe place. Now she’s working to expand her education and is exploring new ways to use her bilingual skills to help her community.
