GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Heartland United Way invited donors, volunteers and board members to reflect on what they accomplished in 2022.
President of Heartland United Way Karen Rathke said they’ve seen an increase in people wanting to participate and help, especially while Nebraskans continue to recover from financial hardships from the pandemic.
“Coming off of two disasters, the flood disasters in 2019, obviously COVID the last couple of years, a resurgence of people wanting to connect and to continue making a difference in their communities," said Rathke.
Rathke said the meeting gives them a chance to connect in one space with everyone involved in United Way.
For the future, she hopes they can continue helping those in Nebraska and expand their community further.
“I think in 2023 we are really hoping to work collaboratively to be a more welcoming community and taking the lessons we’ve learned and taking the opportunities to meet and know more people and more cultures and really celebrate the richness we have in our community,” said Rathke.
Rathke said they are currently looking for more volunteers as they saw a decrease in numbers since the pandemic.
